It is a story of Margaret's life growing up in Bethel, Alaska, and her family history based on memory and family letters and diaries. In 1908, her father ran a company trading post in Bethel. Included are descriptions people, schools, and living conditions in the Bethel area, prospectors in remote areas of Alaska in the early twentieth century, and descriptions of Eskimo customs. 104 pages.

McKinley, beginning with the James Wickersham group in 1903 and the Lloyd group in 1910 is also included.

The George L. Harrington letter was written at the Alaska-Canada boundary near Eagle City, Alaska, July 3, 1909. In the letter to his mother, George Harrington described, sometimes humorously, his Alaska experiences as he worked with the Alaska Boundary Survey. The letter was sent to Mrs. W.E. Harrington of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The letter was written on birch bark and should not be handled as it is very fragile.

McIntosh gives short daily entries on the activities, trials and weather of the expedition. He also names some of the other people in the party. The Schwatka exploration expedition, ordered by Congress, came up Southeast Alaska's inside passage, traveled over the Chilkoot Pass and built a raft at Lake Bennett. They then traveled by raft from Lake Bennett to the mouth of the Yukon River in the Behring Sea.
