Occupations in which one gender accounts for less than 25 percent of all persons employed in that occupation.
Welcome to the new school of thought. . . Young Alaskans have a unique opportunity to fill the labor needs in areas that were once gender-dominated industries. At one time teachers were mostly female, and most construction sites employed predominantly men. Today, and in the near future, there are many jobs in high demand that open the doors to Nontraditional Occupations. Now is the time to familiarize students about the opportunities and the challenges in industries that have many benefits such as high salaries, good promotional options, and flexible work schedules. Get Off the Hook
You are invited to “Get Off The Hook”, and consider a nontraditional occupation (NTO). “Get Off The Hook” is a collection of resources, and curriculum for teachers, counselors, parents and students seeking to gain information about why it is important to consider a NTO. It can be used alone or in a classroom setting. Join in and consider getting off the hook of tradition. There is a whole new world awaiting you!

Destination Success is a supplement to Taking the Road Less Traveled: Educator’s Tool Kit to Prepare Students for Nontraditional Careers that provides the user with a variety of resources, including tip sheets, activities, projects, surveys, and forms for each of the four areas addressed in the tool kit:
Awareness, Recruitment, Retention, and Placement.
While the original tool kit provides an overview for each area and offers strategies to create awareness, recruit nontraditional students, retain the students, and place them in nontraditional occupations, it does not include the “How to,” which is what we hope this supplement does.
