Students. Subjects.
Reporting. Questionnaires.
  • NAEP measures student performance by giving each student a small part of the test. NAEP asks a lot of students a few questions and then combines the results (i.e., matrix sampling).
  • NAEP randomly selects students to represent the nation, states, or districts.
  • NAEP is a survey of student performance and cannot be used to attribute cause.
  • NAEP results are reported using both scale scores and achievement levels.
  • NAEP assessments employ both multiple choice and open-ended item types.
