Since 1969, NAEP has assessed numerous academic subjects. Starting with the 1990 8th grade mathematics assessment, the National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB) has selected the subjects and developed the frameworks for each subject. NAGB also prepares the specifications that guide the development of the assessment instruments.
