Green to Teach
Post-Baccalaureate Alternative Certification Pathway

Purpose
The Green to Teach pathway is a state-approved post-baccalaureate alternative route to Alaska teacher certification designed to support active-duty military members, veterans, and military spouses who hold a bachelor’s degree and are interested in becoming classroom teachers in Alaska public schools.
Overview
During the Green to Teach pathway, candidates complete required coursework through the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE), participate in structured on-the-job learning within an approved Alaska public school district, and meet all State of Alaska requirements to be eligible for teacher certification.

Eligibility Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university
- Be one of the following:
- Active-duty military member
- Veteran
- Military spouse
- Meet all State of Alaska teacher certification requirements, including teacher preparation examinations, required trainings, and criminal history background clearance

- 12-week or 15-week instructional options

- Skill Bridge Placement: Active Duty Members
- Direct District Placement: Veterans / Military Spouses
Instruction Provider
American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE) is the approved instructional provider for the Green to Teach pathway and delivers the required coursework leading toward eligibility for an Alaska teaching certificate.

Cost & Tuition Support
Candidates must complete a pre-approval form from DEED to access a discounted code through ABCTE and qualify for district tuition reimbursement. After payment, candidates submit their tuition receipt to their school district for processing. Districts may require program completion prior to submitting reimbursement to DEED. All DEED tuition reimbursement is subject to annual funding availability.

Additional Information
Certification approval applies within the State of Alaska. Candidates seeking employment in other states must independently verify reciprocity and eligibility requirements with that state’s education agency.
