The Alaska Reads Act
Alaska Distance Learning Consortium
The Alaska Department of Education & Early Development (DEED), in cooperation with school districts, will establish a distance learning consortium so that distance learning and professional development resources are available to students and teachers. The consortium will provide training for teachers on distance instruction methods and the differences between distance instruction and instruction offered in a classroom. The consortium will employ a reading specialist available to districts to provide distance intensive reading intervention services to students. Distance education courses and professional development must be available on or before July 1, 2024.
