ARI is a division within DEED specifically designed
to support districts and provide services for successful
implementation of the Alaska Reads Act.
Summer School Grant Opportunity
A competitive grant opportunity for districts to support summer school is being posted. This competitive grant aims to offer school districts an opportunity to develop innovative strategies to fulfill the mandatory 20 hours of summer learning for third-grade students with reading deficiencies and to offer additional support to K-2 students in reading. The funding source will come from Alyeska Reading Institute and COVID-19.

Tutoring
Alyeska Reading Institute, a part of DEED, is looking for great reading teachers to tutor struggling students during the summer. ARI will provide tutoring in two week sessions with virtual or in-person as options. Tutors will have the ability to choose the sessions that work.

to enhance their own knowledge and skills.

ARIs intervention programs and supplemental materials are
aligned to the six components rooted in the Science of
Reading and aligned to the AK Reads Act components.
SUPPLEMENTAL SUPPORT
Tutors can offer one-on-one or small group attention and
personalized instruction, which may not always be possible
in a regular classroom setting.
FLEXIBILITY
ARI tutors can provide services during the school day, before
or after school, and during the summer break.
IMPROVED STUDENT OUTCOMES
ARI’s model is aligned to the basic principles of the High-Impact Tutoring Model developed by the Annenberg Institute at
Brown University.
COST NEUTRAL
ARI provides intervention materials and tutoring services at
no cost to districts.
