Anchorage’s Fairview Elementary to be renamed honoring district’s first black teacher and principal
This week the Anchorage School Board voted unanimously to rename Fairview Elementary School to honor Dr. Etheldra Davis, who died in November with complications from COVID-19.
Davis was the first black teacher in the Anchorage School District when she began teaching in 1958. She became the district’s first black principal when she took the position at Fairview Elementary in 1969.
