Attendance Matters: Building a Brighter Future for Alaska's Students
Student attendance is a cornerstone of academic success, yet in the 2022-2023 school year, 45% of Alaska’s students were identified as chronically absent. Chronic absenteeism not only disrupts learning but also affects long-term opportunities for success. Recognizing this challenge, the Alaska State Board of Education is committed to addressing attendance and ensuring that every student can access a high-quality education every day.
Regular attendance fosters academic achievement, strengthens community connections, and lays the foundation for brighter futures. The Board, alongside educators, families, and communities, is implementing strategic initiatives to reduce absenteeism, support student engagement, and create a culture where every school day counts. Together, we can ensure that all students have the opportunity to thrive.
