Building Oral Language and Phonology for Administrators
This module explores the language foundations essential for reading proficiency. Participants will examine oral and written language systems, understanding their progression and connection to literacy instruction. Emphasis is placed on the concept that reading is not natural. The course includes phonological awareness key processes, developmental progression, and instructional strategies. School leaders will focus on data-driven decision-making, classroom observations, and collaborative inquiry.
This focus module is part of the Science of Reading for Administrators, PCG course. Each focus module requires separate selection and enrollment; it takes approximately 7 hours to complete and supports professional learning and deeper knowledge of essential reading components. Modules taken as individual units will not qualify for the Alaska Reads Act Endorsement. CEUs are available for participants who complete two or more individual modules.
