Exploring Phonics and Word Study for Administrators
This module provides a comprehensive introduction to phonics instruction, emphasizing the importance of direct and explicit teaching. Participants will explore phonics within key reading models, understand Ehri’s Phases of Reading Development, and learn five essential practices for effective phonics instruction. The course covers systematic multisensory approaches, components of a successful lesson, and strategies for integrating phonics instruction. School leaders will focus on data-driven decision-making.
This focus module is part of the Science of Reading for Administrators, PCG course. Each focus module requires separate selection and enrollment; it takes approximately 7 hours to complete and supports professional learning and deeper knowledge of essential reading components. Modules taken as individual units will not qualify for the Alaska Reads Act Endorsement. CEUs are available for participants who complete two or more individual modules.
