2020 Census Resources
The Census Bureau is carefully monitoring the COVID-19 situation and working with national, state, and local health authorities as the 2020 Census is underway. The Census Bureau is adapting their operations where needed, but the goal is the same - to ensure a complete and accurate count of everyone, including children. Census data will impact federal funds that communities receive for special education, classroom technology, teacher training, after school programs, school lunch assistance, and more for the next decade. Alaska receives almost $3.5 billion dollars annually based on Census data. It is important that EVERY child is counted in the 2020 Census.
Statistics in Schools (SIS) are resources developed by the Census Bureau to teach students the importance of data and statistical literacy. These teacher-created resources for pre-K through 12th grade help bring subjects to life using real-world Census statistics. SIS developed new Home and Distance Learning Activities which offers 200 free learning activities and resources for families and students to learn more about our country, state, and local communities.
The Alaska Federation of Natives developed special instructions with three important steps to ensure an accurate count for Alaska native families. How you fill out the Census could impact federal funding to tribal communities and partners.
Alaska Counts’ website has great information and resources about how the Census data will impact Alaskans. Visit their website for information, FAQs, and translated Census Language Guides.
