2021 PAEMST Award Nominees
The Department of Education and Early Development would like to congratulate the five Alaskan educators nominated and selected as finalist for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching
According to the PAEMST Organization, the “Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teaching. “
Alaska’s finalists are:
- Vani Pillai (Anchorage School District)
- Gretchen Striker (Denali Borough School District / Anchorage School District)
- Stacy Golden (Sitka School District)
- Jason Collins (Anchorage School District)
- Ann Cherrier (Anchorage School District)
The Awards were established by Congress in 1983. The President may recognize up to 108 exemplary teachers each year.
The award recognizes those teachers who have both deep content knowledge of the subjects, science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science, and have the ability to motivate and engage students to achieve success in those areas.
