Alaska Smart Start 2020
This week of the Alaska Smart Start Summer Virtual Summit 2020 started with guest speakers Dr. Bill Dagget and MaryEllen Elia talking about creating future-focused schools. Dr. Bill Dagget is the founder and Chairman of the International Center for Leadership in Education (ICLE), and is recognized worldwide for his proven ability to move PreK-12 education systems toward more rigorous and relevant skills and knowledge for all students. MaryEllen Elia is a Senior Partner at ICLE and former New York State Commissioner of Education and President of the University of the State of New York. MaryEllen’s vast experience in innovation and community schools continue to benefit schools across the country.
The rest of the week sessions were equally exciting and informational, with topics including social justice principals, COVID communications, the safe transportation of students, student engagement, networking with rural educators, and best practices in remote learning.
DON’T MISS NEXT WEEK! It’s not too late to join this dynamic professional development opportunity. Participants can register at any time to learn and engage with fellow education stakeholders. Attend all the sessions or pick and choose which sessions fit your needs.
Next week will kick off with guest speaker Ken Trump with a session titled “Waiting to Exhale: Managing Complexity not Chaos”. Ken is President of National School Safety and Security Services, a Cleveland-based national consulting firm specializing in school security and emergency preparedness training, school security assessments, school emergency planning consultations, crisis school safety communications, litigation consulting and expert witness support, and related school safety and crisis consulting services. With more than 30 years of front-line public and private urban, suburban, and rural school security experience working with school and safety officials, Ken will lead a discussion on how to act in a progressive way, rather than reactive.
