Audiobooks, braille, and large print now easier to access for Alaskans of all ages with print disabilities
The Alaska Talking Book Center has long been providing access to audiobooks, braille, and large print, to people with print disabilities, but this year, changes in federal regulations make it practical and easy to certify users with reading disabilities, great news for Alaskan students and their teachers! These students now have ready access to a huge library, covering many subjects, genres, and age-ranges, both fiction and non-fiction, of:
- Downloadable audiobooks and audio magazines that can be listened to via smart phone, tablet, or a provided player.
- Braille books and magazines that can be downloaded and accessed via supplied refreshable braille reader.
- Cartridges with audiobooks or magazines that can be listened to with a provided player, with free shipping both ways.
- Braille books in paper, with free shipping both ways.
- Large print books, with free shipping both ways.
These are a great complement to the resources provided via Bookshare, SESA, and AKCAM. While those sources are great for textbooks or other required materials, the books from the Talking Book Center, recorded by expert readers, provide an engaging, enjoyable entry into reading for pleasure, exploration, and self-directed learning!
