DEED Launches COVID Relief Funding Dashboard and new COVID Relief Funding Resources Webpage
This week DEED launched a new webpage and dashboards to show how COVID relief funds for education in Alaska are being utilized.
Beginning with the CARES Act in March 2020, Congress passed three COVID relief bills, which included funds for educational institutions to address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. In total, Congress allocated Alaska more than $620 million for education.
The Alaska K-12 Education COVID-19 Federal Relief Funding Dashboard includes information on funding for individual districts, DEED, the Office of the Governor, and non-public schools. Information on the dashboard includes award amounts and expenditures, timelines of funding availability, and project descriptions.
“The large amount of COVID relief funds represent an enormous opportunity for Alaska’s public schools. With that opportunity comes great responsibility to make sure every penny benefits students,” Commissioner Michael Johnson said. “This dashboard increases transparency and facilitates the conversations among parents, policy makers, school boards, and local schools needed to ensure funds are used wisely for the benefit of Alaska’s students.”
In addition to the funding dashboards, DEED created a new webpage for COVID relief funding resources. The COVID Relief Funding Resources page will help both school districts and the public find health resources, funding resources, and considerations for school closures.
