Soldotna Montessori Charter School earns National Blue Ribbon School recognition
This week the U.S. Department of Education announced the Soldotna Montessori Charter School in Kenai Peninsula Borough School District earned the distinction of a 2021 National Blue Ribbon School.
Soldotna Montessori Charter earned the distinction in the “Exemplary High Performing Schools” category of the award.
The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. Now in its 39th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed approximately 10,000 awards to more than 9,000 schools.
“It is an honor to recognize the Soldotna Montessori Charter School as this year’s National Blue Ribbon School for Alaska,” said DEED Commissioner Dr. Michael Johnson. “Charter Schools and other choice programs such as public and private Montessori schools are providing Alaska’s families with exemplary educational options. Congratulations to the teachers, families, students, and school community of Soldotna Montessori Charter School and the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District.”
After the announcement, principal John DeVolld spoke with the Peninsula Clarion about the recognition. You can read that story here:
