DEED Spotlight on Policymakers
DEED Spotlight on Policymakers: Kevin Meyer, Lieutenant Governor of Alaska, former legislator.
Lieutenant Governor Kevin Meyer had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Alex Hills, who authored the book “Finding Alaska’s Villages: and Connecting Them.” The book discusses Dr. Hills’ travels around Alaska by bush plane and snow machine while seeking innovative ways to bring telecommunication to rural Alaska.
As the head of the Division of Elections, it is important for Lieutenant Governor Meyer to understand the communication and travel barriers faced in rural Alaska. His goal in reading the book on telecommunication was to learn how to improve communication in the remote villages of rural Alaska, specifically communication surrounding elections.
Lieutenant Governor Meyer is thankful for authors like Dr. Hills who bring attention to important issues, challenges, and opportunities in Alaska. He appreciates reading books that allow him to expand his knowledge of Alaskan pioneers who took risks to provide needed services for our young and developing state. They allow him to learn more about the state he serves.
Lieutenant Governor Meyer thoroughly enjoys reading and is always looking for a good new book that highlights Alaska.
Thank you, Lieutenant Governor Meyer, for sharing how your love of reading helps serve Alaskans!
