Hannah Johnston - Music Educator, Homestead Elementary
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many changes in routine. During this time of uncertainty, Mrs. Johnston’s goal has been to provide a sense of normalcy and familiarity for her students. The students of Homestead Elementary typically start their day with announcements and a song. Mrs. Johnston felt it was only natural that they have the opportunity to do so from home. Each day, at 9:00 am she shares song tales and stories that connect to music on Facebook:

Mrs. Johnston wanted a way to reach out and let her students know she is thinking about them, she misses them dearly, and that the highlight of her day is sharing music with them. What started as a space to reach her Homestead Elementary families has evolved into a community outreach for families and grandparents in the Last Frontier and beyond. Mrs. Johnson has felt blessed to hear siblings, parents, and even grandparents share and make music together. It has been an incredible way to connect and share with colleagues and peers around the state.
“As we are asked to give each other distance, it's incredible to see music bring us together.”
Thank you, Mrs. Johnston, for using music and stories as a way to connect and bring cheer during this challenging time!
