The Alaska School Leadership Academy
The Alaska School Leadership Academy (ASLA) is a two year program of support for early career principals across Alaska. Supported by a grant from the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) and facilitated by the Alaska Council of School Administrators (ACSA), ASLA is finishing up recruitment of its third cohort on September 1st, 2020 and is encouraging new Alaskan principals to consider applying now.
The ASLA program is built around the core services of mentoring, professional networking and advancement of leadership skills. Cohort members will each be assigned an experienced mentor to support reflection and skill growth, be provided opportunities to connect with fellow early career principals across Alaska to build a professional network, and receive several professional development opportunities throughout the year to deepen their leadership skills. This year participants will benefit from training provided by nationally known principal leader Jimmy Casas, among others.
Of ASLA a past participant said “It's a great opportunity to build relationships with principals across the state, as well as learn relevant, applicable skills and content for the job of instructional leader. The academy provided the best applicable information - more so than my principal prep program!”
Interested K-12 principals, including those in rural school districts, are invited to view additional information and apply at https://sites.google.com/view/asla2020/home. New cohort members will be notified in mid-September, with program activities starting the last week in September.
