Understanding the Science of Reading for Administrators
This module delves into relevant science of reading content for school leaders and administrators, highlighting critical evidence behind effective instruction. Participants will explore reading development from alphabetic skills to expert-level comprehension, examining the Simple View of Reading and Scarborough’s Reading Rope. The course covers the Four-Part Processing Model, detailing how reading engages multiple brain systems. Key components from the National Reading Panel Report will be reviewed.
This focus module is part of the Science of Reading for Administrators, PCG course. Each focus module requires separate selection and enrollment; it takes approximately 7 hours to complete and supports professional learning and deeper knowledge of essential reading components. Modules taken as individual units will not qualify for the Alaska Reads Act Endorsement. CEUs are available for participants who complete two or more individual modules.
