A Message from the Commissioner
"ESSA is not Alaska's vision for public education, but rather our goal is that it will support and nourish the vision of public education held by Alaska stakeholders."
ESSA in Alaska
The Every Student Succeeds Act is a reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, and a replacement of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) is currently facilitating the transition to ESSA for schools in Alaska. To find out more about Alaska’s ESSA plan, visit the links in the Our Plan section of this page. For information about the development of Alaska’s plan, visit the links in the Background section.
