Literacy Screener

Amplify mCLASS DIBELS 8 (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) is Alaska’s statewide literacy screener, selected to support early identification of reading deficiencies and ensure students read at grade level by the end of third grade.

Administered three times per year under the Alaska Reads Act, the screener identifies students needing additional support. Those identified receive targeted, intensive intervention alongside core instruction.

Grounded in decades of research, the system provides screening, progress monitoring, instructional guidance, and a built-in dyslexia screener. While it does not diagnose dyslexia, it helps identify students who may need further evaluation.

DEED provides Amplify mCLASS DIBELS 8 at no cost to all Alaska public schools for Kindergarten through 5th grade.
