Building Strong Partnerships for Student Success
When families, schools, and communities work together, students feel supported and engaged, which enhances their achievement and success. Meaningful family engagement is an ongoing relationship built on trust, shared goals, and open communication. The following resources aim to strengthen these vital partnerships, creating environments where all students can thrive.
Research shows that schools making big improvements in reading and learning have three things in common: belonging, consistency, and coherence.
- Belonging means students and families feel welcome, included, and valued. When children feel like they belong at school, they are more ready to learn and grow as readers.
- Consistency means students experience strong, reliable reading instruction every day. Clear routines and expectations help students build reading skills over time.
- Coherence means everyone—teachers, families, and schools—is working together with shared goals. Reading instruction is connected across grades, and families understand how to support reading at home.
When families are included and informed, and when schools and homes work together with clear reading goals, students are more likely to feel supported and succeed in literacy. Creating strong emotional connections, using effective reading practices every day, and aligning efforts across classrooms help all students thrive.
