Early Education Program Registration
Pre-Elementary Approval to Operate has a new name! The Alaska Reads Act is a law that replaces the term "Pre-Elementary" with Early Education. The Act further produced a separate program that requires "approval". To keep current with statute and avoid confusion, the new name for Pre-Elementary Approval to Operate is Early Education Program Registration
Who: classroom-based school district and Head Start Programs early education programs
What: Early Education Program Registration
When: Annually, by September 15 for districts submitting a renewal application OR for new districts, within 30-days before the program start date
How: Complete the online registration.
Why: It is the department's duty to exercise general supervision over public schools. Alaska Regulations 4 AAC 60.010 -60.180 prescribe how the department fulfills that duty regarding early education programs. These regulations include the registration and signed assurances that your early education program meets programmatic requirements:
- Program implementation of the Alaska Early Learning Guidelines (ELG's)
- Each student enrolled in the program is assessed to determine child progress or status in in all domain areas of development described in the ELG's
- Submit to department an Early Education Program Registration End-of-Year Report by June 30
- Make annual report available to parents and public by August 1
