Alaska Science of Reading 2025
Celebrating the 2025 Alaska Science of Reading Symposium: Advancing Literacy Through Collaboration and Innovation
2025 Alaska Science of Reading Symposium: Advancing Literacy, Together
From May 1–4, the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) hosted the 2025 Science of Reading Symposium at Anchorage’s Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center, welcoming over 1,000 educators, school leaders, and literacy advocates from Alaska and beyond.
The symposium featured a stellar lineup of national experts, including Natalie Wexler, Dr. Nancy Frye, Dr. Claude Goldenberg, Dr. Anita Archer, Dr. Michael Andrews, and many others, who led keynotes, master classes, and hands-on sessions grounded in the science of reading.
The event supported the goals of the Alaska Reads Act, including early literacy screening, targeted interventions, and professional development that empowers educators. Attendees gained practical tools to enhance reading instruction, strengthen student and family engagement, and make data-informed decisions that support individualized learning and improved outcomes.
We thank every attendee—many of whom joined on their own time—for their dedication and passion. Your commitment is building a stronger literacy future for Alaska’s students.
Save the date for 2026—we’ll see you there!
