Alaska Native Language Community of Practice
Nudench’tidałtey “we are growing stronger again”, Dena’ina Language Inland dialect.
The Alaska Native Language Community of Practice (ANLCP) meets monthly on the third Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. during the school year. This gathering provides a platform for language teachers, learners, educators, school administrators, and members of the language community to share resources, updates on projects from the Department of Education and Early Development (DEED), and teaching strategies. Participants also collaborate on language revitalization and reclamation initiatives.
During the 2024-2025 school year, the ANLCP focused on topics related to starting a language nest and early childhood development. The group provided updates on the University of Oregon's progress with the LSAIL project, shared successful strategies from immersion Head Start programs, and highlighted Alaska Native language learning pathways for teachers from UAA, UAF, and UAS. Additionally, they hosted the 7000languages.org platform.
Our Mission: Strengthening Alaska Native Languages
The Alaska Native Language Community of Practice aims to support and strengthen Alaska Native languages within our communities. Our vision is to enhance the visibility and use of these languages while fostering collaboration and mutual support to preserve and promote their vitality. This initiative builds on efforts that began during the Alaska Native Language Summit held in April 2023.
